In an intimate interview with the Rolling Stone, Paris-Michael Katherine Jackson, the daughter of the King of Pop Michel Jackson, has revealed how she battled with drugs and depression, going to the extent of attempting to commit suicide multiple times
According to the 18-year-old, who suffered from long-time self-esteem issues, her attempt to commit suicide at the age of 15 that got publicized was just one of the multiple attempts. In June 2013, Paris was diagnosed with depression and drug addiction and she tried to kill herself by slashing her wrist and downing 20 Motrin pills.
As per Paris, what led to her depression were the feelings of low self-esteem, self-hatred, unworthiness, and the self-opinion that she could not do anything right. She also divulged that she had been slashing herself and hiding the scars from her family during those days.
Post her last suicide attempt, Paris spent her sophomore year and half of junior year at a therapeutic school in Utah. She described her stint in Utah as something that was great for her as she turned out to be a completely different person.
During the interview, Paris admitted to going through a lot of teen angst. She admitted that when she was 16, she was doing a lot of things that a 13-, 14-, or 15-year-old should not be doing. She said she tried to grow up too fast and that she was not a nice person.
Being open about her mental problem, Paris said her depression resulted from hanging out with a lot of older people doing a lot of crazy things. She also shared that she has more than 50 tattoos covering her body and some of these cover scars from slashing herself and track marks from her drug abuse days.
During the interaction, Paris disclosed how at the age of 14, she was sexually assaulted by a complete stranger. Though the star-kid did not reveal the details, she said that it was not good at all, as it was really hard for her, and that at the time she did not tell anybody about the incident. Till date, Paris faces a lot of cyber bullying and cruel online comments.
Paris said that her father had also struggled with depression and that she and her late father had been prescribed the same antidepressants. She also clarified that she is no longer on any medication and is completely sober.
Paris said her interest in the field of modeling helped her tackle her longtime low self-esteem issues. There are plenty of people who think that she is ugly but while modeling, there is a moment when she forgets about her self-esteem issues and focuses on what the photographer tells her, and that is when she feels really pretty.
A source close to Paris told ET that Paris is very happy pursuing her creative interests. The source added that Paris has been writing songs, wants to try her hand at acting, and is grateful for the opportunities that lay ahead.
